While we were staying on Hilton Head Island, we made a day trip to Bluffton, SC. Check out another day trip we made from Hilton Head to Beaufort, SC.
Summary
- Drive Time– about a half-hour drive (one way) from our lodging in Hilton Head to Bluffton
- Kids Ages: 2 1/2 years and 9 months
- Child Transport– We took a double stroller. However, things were closer than I thought. I think we would have been fine with the toddler walking and the baby in a baby carrier.
- Time Spent in Town- about 2 1/2 hours
- Itinerary– shopping at the Outlets, playground at Dubois Park, lunch, and strolling the town
A short drive from Hilton Head, Bluffton is a nice area to visit. With the age of our kids and their attention span, we didn’t make a lot of formal plans. We basically aimed to just stroll Old Town Bluffton and hit the playground. And with that simple plan, that was enough to have a really lovely visit.
First, we had a bit of a shoe emergency with my toddler. So we stopped at the Tanger Outlets to grab a pair of Crocs. With tons of shopping, you can easily spend a day shopping at the Outlets alone. But, we were in and out and headed to Old Town Bluffton.
Directions and Parking
My toddler was a little feisty from the get-go, so we opted to head directly for Dubois Park to get some energy out at the playground. We parked on Lawton St. It was a lovely little park with on-site bathrooms.
There is lots of free 3-hour parking within walking distance to nearby shops, art galleries, cafes, and historic homes. What a treat to be able to park once, visit a playground, and walk to everything.

We built up an appetite at the park and strolled through town, finding many options for lunch.

Old Town was adorable and it was just fun to take in all the charm.

I must have had my hands full with the kids. I didn’t grab too many pictures, so I wasn’t really able to visually do Bluffton much justice. But take it from me this place was adorable and definitely a must-visit while staying on Hilton Head Island or surrounding areas.
Additional Sites
