Every holiday season during my childhood, my parents piled us in the car, grabbed some hot chocolate, turned on some Christmas tunes, and drove us around a bunch of neighborhoods to look at Christmas lights. It was one of my favorite holiday traditions.
When I got married, my husband quickly learned that there was no stopping this tradition. We actually expanded the tradition a bit by picking a “best-decorated home” winner who earns an ornament and a gift card to a local business.
There are so many beautifully decorated homes everywhere you look during the holidays. Here is a list of some homes we’ve come across in Fayette County, PA that most likely took a little extra effort and are worth a drive-by. Of note, homeowners change, and decorating efforts change, so I can’t guarantee that this list is up to date.
These homeowners have gone above and beyond to create Christmas magic. I hope you check them out while enjoying many additional decorated homes along the way.
So pile the family in the car, or have a peaceful moment to yourself, grab a cup of hot cocoa, turn on the Christmas tunes, and take a drive around to see some festive homes during the holidays.
If at any point you’d like to continue to view lights while also stretching your legs, or if you have energetic little ones like me who need to get some wiggles out, be sure to check out some free walkable public light displays in Fayette County.
I would like to grow this list, so please feel free to contact me with more suggestions.
Uniontown Area
There is a display on 49 Milton St in Uniontown where you can turn on your radio in the car and the lights are synced up to the music. Follow the Facebook page Rambo Christmas Lights for more info.
Check out a beautiful display at 395 S Lombard St in Uniontown, PA. I’d probably recommend viewing this home from the front on Old Walnut Road.
133 5th St in Uniontown has a fantastic display and is very close to the Sheepskin Trail at Hutchinson Park which offers a lit walking loop and holiday lights on the covered bridge, in case you have some kids with you who need to walk some wiggles out.
53 Ruble Dr in Uniontown has another display worth viewing with several other beautifully decorated homes nearby.
If you venture to Ruble Dr., I’d suggest continuing further and doing a loop around Virginia Circle. You can’t miss this bright display near the entrance at 358 Virginia Circle.
One of my favorite neighborhoods to drive through to look at lights is Heritage Hills in South Union Township. I don’t have an address for this one, but it’s near the development’s entrance from Westgate Road. You can almost see it up on a hill driving through the development.
Another neighborhood I love to drive through every year is around St. Mary’s in Uniontown. I love to look at the charming older homes and there’s a lot of beautifully decorated homes. My kids love inflatables, so they always ask us to drive by 63 Stockton Ave when we are in the area.
Traffic can move quickly on Morgantown Rd, but be sure to slow down at 720 Morgantown Rd for a nice display and also on the corner of Warden and Morgantown St across the street from Ben Franklin School.
Hopwood
If there’s a home in Fayette County you don’t want to miss, it’s this one in my opinion, from the Longs at 96 Locust St in Hopwood. This is a beautiful story of a display that started with three deer and grew and grew and grew to a drive-through with lights everywhere. The family begins to work on this in September to make it happen.
On your way to the Longs display at 96 Locust St, feel free to swing by 120 Buttermilk Lane in Hopwood. Keep venturing through this neighborhood for more beautiful light displays.
If you are in Hopwood, don’t forget to stop at a free public light display in Hutchinson Park at the covered bridge on the Sheepskin Trail. The park offers a roughly .5-mile walking loop and is a nice area to take a walk and enjoy some lights.
Fairchance
115 S Morgantown St in Farichance is a display I have yet to check out but was sent to me. It’s one I don’t want to miss and want to visit soon. One thing the homeowner mentioned to me is that the home experiences a lot of wind and if it’s a bad weather evening, the display may be off.
Nearby in Fairchance is another one on 61 W Elm St.
Smithfield
1 Crystalwood Dr in Smithfield is a must-see during the Christmas season. This family has actually created a short drive-thru experience. We also enjoyed many homes lit along the way from Uniontown to Smithfield on 119.
Masontown
Homeowners in Masontown go all out at 201 Penn Ave. There’s even a decorated 1949 Ford Truck in the yard!
I haven’t visited this one yet, but I was informed there was another display in Masontown that syncs up the lights to music on the radio. Check out 230 Smithfield Road.
115 North Main St in Masontown is another one worth a drive-by. The homeowner’s Christmas spirit is also emulated on the inside with over 50 trees!
Farmington
If you venture into the Farmington area, there’s a nice two-for-one drive drive by on Braddock Rd. This first stop is 629 Braddock Rd for a large display. My kids love all the inflatables. This home also does a Halloween display!
A little further back is another fantastic display at 490 Braddock Rd.
While in the Farmington area, don’t forget to drive along the Historic National Road for some incredible free displays at places like Braddock’s, the watering trough, the historic chimneys, and the Laurel Highlands Visitor Center. There’s more info about these free displays in this post.
Connellsville Area
This display at 409 Wills Rd in Connellsville is not one home but three neighbors that went in on a display together. The lights are synced to a radio station you can put on in your car. There’s actually a Facebook page you can check out for more information. We enjoyed looking at several other beautifully decorated homes in the neighborhood. Plus, this home also started lighting up for Halloween!
The Vandorsdale Lights at 211 Van Dr in Connellsville is another incredible display where the lights are synced up to the radio station. This one also has a Facebook page where you can check for more information such as a suggested route to enter and exit the neighborhood. The surrounding neighbors have lots of lights up too. Plus this home also recently started lighting up for Halloween!
While in Connellsville, be sure to check out a bright and beautiful display at 1520 W Crawford Ave.
Brownsville
If you venture to the Brownsville area, check out 128 Simpson Rd for a bright and beautiful display.
I hope you found this helpful and that you take a drive around to enjoy these beautiful displays. As mentioned before, I would love to grow this list. So if you think your home should be featured or if you know somewhere else we should check out, please let me know.
I want to personally thank all of these homeowners plus many other homeowners not mentioned in this post for all of the hard work in making homes beautiful at Christmas. My family really enjoys this holiday tradition and I hope you will as well.
