Peanut butter energy balls are an easy, delicious, convenient snack that my family gobbles up constantly whether it’s in the house or on the go. I actually start to panic a little when I’m under a dozen.

This is my brother-in-law’s recipe. I don’t know exactly where he came across it. But there are many variations to these energy ball recipes. As far as additional on-the-go snacks, don’t miss my recipe for pepperoni rolls. We live on those too. I’m always looking for more on-the-go recipes, so please any ideas you have and any variations to energy ball recipes that you enjoy.
These are so simple. No baking, no food processor. Just put all the ingredients in a bowl, mix, roll, store, and eat.
Ingredients
This recipe calls for oats, peanut butter, honey, chocolate chips, and protein powder (optional). I use quick 1 minute oats. I haven’t tried any other types of oats, but don’t know why you couldn’t use them. I’ve also used both crunchy and smooth peanut butter. I tend to use vanilla protein powder for my preference. And I use dark chocolate chips, but I imagine any would do or they could be left out.
Directions
Simply add all the ingredients to a bowl in any order: oats, peanut butter, honey, protein powder, and chocolate chips. Then mix them all together. I tend to use a spoon, potato masher, or my hands to mix. My sister makes these regularly and she actually mixes them with her KitchenAid mixer.
Sometimes I like to put the mixture in the refrigerator for a few hours so it’s less sticky when I make the balls. Other times I just want to finish them and roll them right away.
Next, scoop up some of the mixture and roll it into balls. You can probably use a regular spoon but I use my 2 tbsp cookie scoop.
Pictured here is a batch for what the recipe calls for. From here you can serve or store them in the refrigerator. I often double or even triple the recipe and store some in the freezer.
Peanut Butter Energy Balls
Course: Snacks, AppetizersDifficulty: EasyPeanut butter balls are an easy snack we make all the time for snacks on the go and at home, especially when we need a boost of energy.
Ingredients
3 cups oats
2 cups peanut butter
1 cup honey
3 tbsp protein powder (optional)
chocolate chips to your liking (about 1 cup)
Directions
- Mix all ingredients in a large bowl.
- Scoop and roll into balls.
- Serve or store in the refrigerator.
Notes
- I’ve only made this with Instant oats. I’ve used creamy and crunch peanut butter and I tend to use dark chocolate chips, likely a heaping cup.
- When I can remember, I’ll also add ground flax seed.
- I’ve also stored these in the freezer and thawed them in the refrigerator.
That’s it for this simple delicious snack. If you make a batch of these energy balls, leave a comment or tag me on Instagram @adventureswkelly. I’d love to know if you like them as much as my family does. And please share if you have any other recipes for snacks.
