As a mom who likes to get the family out, I realize I’ve been to a lot of playgrounds in Fayette County. So I figured it was time for a guide – an opportunity to share pictures, some things I learned, and ideas for playground adventures. I’m sure I’m missing many, but this guide can serve as a starting point for some ideas to get the kids out and play.
I’m sharing some pictures and brief notes of things I loosely recall about my visits. Things can change and I may have missed some park features.
At the bottom of the post, I’ve provided a list based on categories (e.g. playgrounds with disc golf, stroller-friendly playgrounds, etc.). Let’s get into it.

School Playgrounds
We also play at playgrounds at elementary schools. We always fondly remember a friend we lost when we play at The Amy Tungate Ninja Warrior Course at Marshall Elementary. Other school playgrounds we enjoy playing at are Hatfield and Ben Franklin schools.
At this point, this post has taken a lot of work going back and digging through old pictures so I’m going to pause here for now. I would like to come back and add playgrounds we have loved just outside of Fayette County including Laurelville, Cedar Creek, Cheat Lake Park, Edith B Barill in Star City, and many more.
Based on questions I’ve received before, here are some ways I tend to categorize playgrounds in my head:
Disc Golf Courses
Check out a separate post about disc golf courses in Fayette County (many of these courses are located in parks with playgrounds.
Pickleball
Check out a separate post about where to play pickleball in Fayette County (many of these courts are located in parks with playgrounds.
Stroller Friendly Playgrounds
Stroller-friendly playgrounds might also be a good choice for children who want to ride bikes or scooters. These might also be good options for those with mobility needs and could be ADA-accessible.
Playgrounds with walking loops:
- Hutchinson Park
- Eberly Park
- Areford Park
Playgrounds connected to rail trails (paved):
- Hutchinson Park (Sheepskin Trail)
- Meadowbrook (Sheepskin Trail)
- Leith Park (Sheepskin Trail)
- Bailey Park (Sheepskin Trail)
- Coal Lick Park (Rotary Walk)
- Yough River Park (GAP Trail)
Playgrounds connected to rail trails (crush of run surface):
- Dunbar Park (Sheepskin Trail)
- Point Marion Park (Sheepskin Trail)
- Clark Park (Browns Run Trail)
Shade
In the summer heat, playground equipment can get hot in the sun so we tend to gravitate toward playgrounds with shade.
